Paragon Pomeranians in Northern California

pomeranian, puppy, akc, teddy bear

Important Information

Some essential items you should have when preparing for your new Pomeranian's homecoming.

Small size crate and blanket or soft bed that fits inside the crate. The crate mimics a den, so your puppy will feel safe in there and will love to sleep in it. Please don't leave your puppy locked in the crate unattended. Your puppy is not capable of holding their bladder for long periods of time so as soon as puppy is awake put them outside to relieve themselves or have access to a pee pad.

Play pen or x pen keeps the puppy safe and you can put the crate, food, water, toys and pee pads in there. With this set up, your puppy is safe when you are not watching him/her or if you have to leave them at home alone.

Stainless steel food and water bowls, they are easy to clean, and can't be chewed on.

Small stuffed toy, no eyes or small parts on the toy that could be chewed off and choked on.

Snuggle puppy is a great product it heats up and has a heartbeat.

Safe things to chew on, such as bully stick, antler, hoof. Chewing is essential for proper jaw development and helps with the pain of teething.

Child's tooth brush with dog toothpaste. Toys dogs tend to get tartar build up regular brushing helps prevent this.

Slicker hair brush, scissors, comb and baby shampoo.

Nutrical can be purchased at most pet/food stores or your vet's office. Toy dogs are susceptible to hypoglycemia, which is low blood sugar. Your Pom will be lethargic, have no appetite, gums may be pale. This can be quite serious and if not treated can cause seizures and even death. Even if your Pom has food out, be sure they are actually eating it. Once they go into hypoglycemia they will not eat. Nutrical is a highly palatable paste that will bring their blood sugar up quickly. If your Pom won't take the Nutrical, put some on your finger and put it in their mouth You should see improvement within a few minutes, if you don't, get to the vet quickly. I will provide you with a syringe of nutrical in your puppy pack.

I will send home several days worth of dog food, so when you switch to the food you choose it can be done over several days. Switching food too fast or introducing new treats too quickly can result in tummy upset. The website dog food advisor is helpful in choosing the best dog food. I feed Diamond Natural small breed puppy chicken and rice. You don't want soy, wheat or corn in your dog food and the first ingredient should be species specific, such as chicken, turkey, beef. I feed free choice meaning there is always dry kibble available. If feeding this way doesn't work for you, I suggest feeding 3x daily then going to 2x daily at about 6 months of age.

IMPORTANT: WHEN GOING TO THE VET PLEASE ONLY DO ONE THING AT A TIME. FOR EXAMPLE ONLY ONE VACCINATION, PER VISIT, THEN WAIT A FEW DAYS TO DO THE WORMING, WAIT A FEW MORE DAYS TO DO ANY FLEA OR TICK PREVENTION, AND SO ON. YOUR PUPPY IS SO TINY AND DOING MORE THAN ONE PROCEDURE CAN CAUSE UNNECESSLARY STRESS TO THEIR SYSTEMS.

I hope this information will make an easy transition for your puppy and your family.
